Mohit as Jai, Amitabh as Gabbar !!

No, seriously, I'm gonna faint. I'll get to the point straight away. I personally believe Amitabh can NEVER play Gabbar's role. No, I don't want to disrespect Big B but seriously, I don't think he has the persona to play Gabbar's role. I think he would have made a good Thakur, but Gabbar ? NEVER !

As for Mohit Ahalwat (the new guy in James), I'm as shell-shocked. I'm not going to say anything now. Let me see James first.

My Opinion on Dus : AWFUL !

Seriously, DUS BAHANE and DEEDAR DE are really cool and captivating music videos. The choreography is very slick, the music is catchy and Abhishek, Zayed and that new model are stupendous. But that was the only part which I can like.

Dus is one of the most awful films I've ever had the misfortune to see. The story is very cliche, race against time to stop a terrorist attack. We've seen loads of films like this. The scenes are damn predicatable and even when I couldn't understand a scene, I could easily understand what's going on. Very predictable, there's a traitor in the ATC (Anti Terrorist Cell), one of the girls are kidnapped. And in an effort to make the film slick, the director has made of the portions very dark and irritating. The rescue sequence of Dia Mirza illustrates this. Then of course, there's the love sequences. Each of the four heroes have to have a love interest. But sadly, except to a small extent Sanjay-Shilpa, none of them have any chemistry. The Canada scenes with Zayed and Abhishek initially (the car chase scene) are cool but then we suddenly deviate to romance. Sorry, Esha looks horrendous with the same expression on her face. Raima tries but doesn't come through. Ditto with Dia. Shilpa is the only saving grace.

Abhishek and Sanjay are good. Sunil is OK. Zayed really needs to improve.

If I had to rate, I wouldn't give it more than 3(for the good action moments) out of 10.

hopefully Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya will be better,

Next Week's analysis

Next week, we have the release of Yahaan, 7 1/2 Phere and Sehar. Yahaan is a film set in Kasmir about a love story between an army captain(Jimmy Shergill) and a Kashmiri girl(Minissha). The music is by Shantanu Moitra and I must say, the music is stupendous. Moitra is really in good form and my favourite is the song "Naam Adaa Likhna." I just wish that the songs are publisized more because I'm sure they will gain immense popularity. The movie itself doesn't attract me too much because there have been loads of stories about Kashmir (Mission Kashmir comes to mind instantly) and I don't really believe the tag that it's different.

7 1/2 Phere is an offbeat light-hearted comedy aimed at mainly multiplex audiences which has Juhi Chawla(after an awesome performance in My Brother,Nikhil) and Irffan Khan. It's mainly about about a wedding which had hidden cameras and which is being broadcasted on national television without the consent of any of the parties ! Of course, what happens is predictable, loads of secrets come out ! The music is by Shantanu Moitra incidentally but is not as good as Yahaan. This is not attracting me at all because of the low key publicity and the subject matter is just being...boring.

Sehar is yet another film about police officers which starts Arshad Warsi and Mahima Chaudhary after Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye. This film apparently has shown Arshad Warsi in a serious role after a long time. Incidentally, "Sehar" means light in Urdu. This movie appeals the least to me cause seriously there have been loads of films on this issue and secondly, I don't really like any of these actors.

Viruddh and more.

Viruddh releases today which is yet another story about father-son like "Waqt". The review from IndiaFM seems pretty positive. I don't think it will get a great opening, but it might get pick up via word of mouth. So, it might go the "Baghban" way. I think the films looks pretty good but I for one am getting an overdose of Amitabh Bachchan. Black, Waqt, Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Viruddh...I'm seeing him everywhere. He's endorsing over a hundred products on TV and now he's coming back to KBC. Amitji, please take a break now !

Till Mangal Pandey on 12th August, there are not many big films releasing. "Mere Jeevan Sathi" on 5th August might be an exception, but I for one, am pretty sure it will fail. Also, "Sehar", "Yahaan.." and "7 1/2 Phere" do not interest me.

To the Offbeat films...

What exactly is the defintion of parallel and offbeat cinema ? I was wondering about this today and I thought, "is it cinema which (supposedly) do not have Bollywood masala elements, formulas, stories etc." Many esteemed industry persons have said that parallel cinema is a art. I personally have very little interest in this so called parallel films or multiplex films. Why ? I go to a hall to be entertained, to escape from life. Yes, of course, I do want to see larger-than-life cinema, I do want good triumphing over evil. I want to be entertained, I want to forget my problems for a few hours. If I want to watch reality, I might as well stand outside.

Family Comes First !!

Am I glad I finally managed to login to Blogger. For the last few days, my internet connection. Anyway, let's go to the movies.

The Salman-Aishwarya tapes have put the nation on fire but frankly I'm just not interested. This is old news and there's no need to pull all this up. Anyway, who cares. Everyone is reporting that MPKK (Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya) is doing well and for Salman, I hope it does well. The reports coming in say that it is even more funnier than Mujhse Shaddi Karogi.

Virudhh is up next with Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore and John Abraham. The new girl(manisha?) looks pretty cute and hopefully will act as well. I'm sure we can bank on Amitji and Sharmilaji. So, all in all, Virudhh has to just rev up the marketing a bit and it might turn out to be a success like the other family film this year "Waqt"!!

MPKK and Salman..again

Maine Pyur Kyun Kiya releases this Friday, another laugh riot from David Dhawan starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Sushmita Sen. The promos seem to be pretty nice, also. IndiaFM has rated it pretty high and the promotion of the film has also been hot. So, like the trend, I'm pretty sure MPKK will have a huge opening, witness a drop and just about get the semi-hit tag. Of course, I'm willing to be proved wrong. I don't know, but after Paheli, no single film has prompted me to go and watch a film. None of them have excited me. Mangal Pandey might seem a appetising but it's still a long time away and anyway my exams start then..

It seems, this year, almost all films which are doing well this year are promoted and marketed excessively, of course, excluding Page 3(awesome film!). Look at the list : Black, Lucky, Waqt, Kaal, Parineeta, Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Dus. It seems it's only marketing which can gurantee a good opening. I, for one, don't really like this and hope that now the low marketed films also get some profit. Case in point, both Bose and Matrubhoomi (very good films) both sank at the box office.

Back again..

Sorry, but back again after long. I just want to add some thoughts about Paheli and Parineeta. I found Paheli to be a very nice film. If the reports of Planet Bollywood and IndiaFm are true, then Paheli is doing very well in Overseas. I only hope it manages to recover it's costs and make a little profit bcoz it is a very good movie and I would hate to see it go the "Swades" way.

I watched Parineeta this Sunday and again found it pretty good timepass. Pretty good cinema and it's a film where you get the idea that you've got your money's worth. Even though people are making such hoola over Vidya Balan, I thought the real champ was Saif Ali Khan. Stupendous.
